Learning CenterThe Learning Center at Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory was established in the fall of 1999. It is designed to provide resource support to students so that they can succeed in their college preparatory curriculum and to address the needs of students who are having academic learning problems. Students will develop the skills necessary to become independent learners by acquiring organizational skills, test-taking techniques, study strategies, and self-advocacy. Students in this program are expected to go on to college, but may require some type of additional support or modification to perform at their potential. In this program, students will be shown how to take advantage of certain tools, such as: computers, word processing programs, educational software, and electronic spellers. Accommodations that may be provided included preferential seating in the classroom, homework and project modifications, and extended time for tests, quizzes and standardized exams. In essence, the Learning Center will focus on making reasonable adjustments to help students achieve success in our mainstream college preparatory curriculum.Students will attend the Learning Center during the regular school hours. The amount of time in the Center will vary according to the students needs. Students are required to carry their agenda/student handbook to all classes. They will be able to check for upcoming assignments on the teacher’s daily lesson plans. The classroom teachers will update their grades to Edline on a bi-weekly basis to keep the students and the parents aware of each individual's progress. Admission to the Learning Center is determined based on specific documentation provided during the application process. In addition to the general application requirements, parents will be required to provide psycho-educational testing documentation and a parent/student interview will be conducted. Formal documentation must include recent aptitude and achievement testing results. Results may not be more than three years old. Procedural guidelines for required documentation will be provided upon request. Please note that additional fees will be applied if a student is accepted into the Learning Center Program. |
