Course Descriptions
Personal Fitness - semester - 9 - 12
This course is a graduation requirement.
This course will examine the various issues relating to personal fitness. Current research and theory will be discussed, as will practical implications of the material. Topics will include general principles of exercise, fitness evaluation, cardio-respiratory fitness, nutrition, muscular strength/endurance, flexibility, and various psychological components of fitness and exercise. Two days per week will take place in the classroom for bookwork. Three days per week will be spent outside on practical application.
Life Management - semester - 10 - 11
This course is a graduation requirement.
Topics in this course include drug education and nutrition, harassment, sexual harassment, health concerns in our society, mental and emotional health, stress management, self-esteem, AIDS awareness, sexually transmitted diseases, violence and abuse prevention, marriage and parenthood, and drug use/misuse.
Weightlifting & Aerobic Conditioning 1 – 3 - year - 10 - 12
This course will satisfy additional physical activity graduation requirement.
This year-long course is designed to teach the student proper conditioning techniques; it includes weightlifting techniques on nautilus and free weight equipment. It will also teach proper aerobic conditioning activities. The student will learn the importance of a complete conditioning program which builds strength, endurance and flexibility. Students will be able to use techniques they learn throughout their lives.

Sports Medicine I - semester - 10 - 12
Prerequisite: Instructor permission.
This course will be entry level for sophomores, juniors, or seniors. The students will learn the fundamentals of athletic training and emergency care procedures. The purpose of this class is to learn how and when to care for injuries both in athletics and in the general population.
Sports Medicine II - year - 11 – 12
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Sports Medicine I and instructor permission.
The students will learn more advanced techniques in treating athletic injuries and learn to properly tape athletes who are competing in school athletic programs. They will also learn the proper on-field management of athletic injuries.
Sports Medicine III – year – 12
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Sports Medicine II and instructor permission.
Students will be able to perform a more hands-on approach to treating athletic injuries. They will be working closely with the Head Athletic Trainer in treating on-field injuries and will be involved in assisting in on-field emergency procedures. They will be involved in the management of the athletic training room and the treatment of injuries in the athletic training room. They will also work with the sophomore and junior student athletic trainers in all areas of the program.
Team Sports I - semester - 10 - 12
This course will satisfy additional physical activity graduation requirement.
This course will provide learning experiences that will lead to the development of basic skills in team sports and for the improvement/maintenance of personal fitness. The content will include, but not be limited to, knowledge and application skills, techniques, strategies, rules, and safety practices necessary to participate in selected team sports. Sports covered include, but are not limited to: flag football, soccer, ultimate frisbee, kickball, and basketball.
Team Sports II - semester - 11 - 12
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Team Sports 1.
This course will provide students with the opportunity to develop/refine skills in selected team sports as well as acquire the knowledge of strategies in team play. The course will focus on developing skills and then applying them during game play. Students will be expected to achieve an intermediate to high level of skill. Practice outside of class time and individual help may be necessary for some students to achieve expected performance level. Sports covered include, but are not limited to: wiffle ball, ultimate frisbee, gatorball, kickball, and basketball.
